Creative Icons Day 30

So today it the last day of my creative icon challenge, I will have successfully created a new set of icons every day for 30 days! It is also, coincidentally, the last day of school. This fact is making me a bit nostalgic, so I decided to go back to the first visual design assignment we were given: we had to design 20 different logos for a bunch of natural elements. One of the elements I did was fire and so I used the best one from the 20 to make today’s icons.fire social media icons

Creative Icons Day 27

It occurred to me that I had yet to make any Stargate related icons. Shame on me *smacks back of head*. Anyway I decided to make some replicator themed ones. Enjoy!repicator social media icons

The vector files are on my deviantART page.

Creative Icons Day 26

Unless you are a klingon, Tribbles are the cutest things in the galaxy. They are however completely without purpose, so today I thought I would turn them into icons and give them one!tribble social media iconsThe vector files can be found on my deviantART page

Creative Icons Day 25

So with this royal wedding thing, it occurred to me that I had nothing to match the theme. So I made some hats, they are probably not outrageous enough for a wedding but they are cute.hat social media iconsIf you like the hats you can download them from my deviantART page.

Creative Icons Day 22

Today’s icons were made in illustrator using nothing but text! I used a different font for each icon. From right to left we have Georgia (RSS), Helvetica (Facebook), Times New Roman (Twitter), Century Gothic (email). As always the vector files can be found on my deviantART page.

Creative Icons Day 21

Tick tock on the clock, and the icons don’t stop, no…

Today’s Icons at the request of my grandmother, have been done on clock faces. I am actually really pleased with how they turned out!

Creative Icons Day 12

My favorite holiday is Easter ’cause it has chocolate, bunnies, spring colours, and chocolate bunnies. Since it is just around the corner I figured I would make some Easter egg Icons.Vector files are on my deviantART page.

Type Art

So to continue with my geek theme today, this is a poster I made out of type. It is Amanda Tapping (Stargate-SG1, Stargate Atlantis, & Sanctuary, among others), the picture is based on a sanctuary promotional photo. I used 3 fonts for Amanda: akaDora, Exocet (the Sanctuary font), & Ariel Bold. The background is in Century Gothic. The words I used are from her twitter feed.Ammanda Tapping Type Poster

There is a larger version on my deviantART page, check it out!

Creative Icons Day 9

For my creative challenge today, I thought “What is the geekiest set I could do?”. The first thing that popped into my head was Star Trek so… If you are also a trekkie and would like the vector files you can find them on my deviantART page.

If you use any of my icons please kick my back the credit.

Taxi Interface

So today was our last visual design class *sniff*, and to celebrate our instructor gave us 2 hours to design an invoice  for a Taxi company in Toronto:Taxi Interface

i am not crazy about the colour pallet but I used it ’cause we were told to make it stand out from the other taxi companies is Toronto, and nobody else has these colours.

Creative Icons Day 6

Today’s icons are a result of me scribbling on a post it, and thinking “Ya that could work”! So the first set is done in  the full colour theme with only the e-mail icon using the yellow back.Scribble Icons Colour The second set all have the blue pen and yellow post it thing going.Scribble Icons YellowAs always if you like them and want the vector you can check out my devianART page (both set are included in the one file, even thought the display picture only shows the first set).

Creative Icons Day 4

Today is day 4 in my creativity challenge and today I thought I would make a set that I might actually find a use for so I made a twisting balloon set:“These are practical?” I here you ask. This is a site a designed http://balloonfairies.ca/.

As always if you really like them you can find the vector files on my deviantART page.

Cute as a Button

A while back I enter a button design contest, the little metal buttons not the kind for a shirt, anyway mine was one of the 30 designs selected to be turned into a button. Tonight at button the party, as one of the winners, I was given the complete set of 30 buttons:My favorite ones are the ones in the first column, coincidentally they were designed by my friends. From top to bottom they were designed by Melissa, Me, and Jill

And finally a nice close up of my button:

Redemption

Right so, in her infinite wisdom, our instructor is letting us design a replacement interface for our lowest mark. the theme for mine was: “Inspiring Artwork” (we had to design an interface based of a painting or illustration we liked). Here is the interface:"Guided by the Moonlight"

At the risk of being a total nerd here is the picture that I chose for inspiration:

Yes it is a Sailor Moon piece. It is an original by Naoko Takeuchi.

30 Days of Creativity

Today my college instructor mentioned that she, some of her friends, and some of the other students, were going to be doing a 30 day creative challenge. The concept is pretty simple: every day for the next 30 days you do something creative that is tangible. April, my teacher, is doing squares each day will have a different theme. One of the girls is taking pictures of different pairs of shoes in different locations, one a day for 30 days. Another girl is doing short articles. Basically we can do what ever we want so long as you have something to show for it at the end of the day. I decided to do icons, mostly of the social network variety, but we will see how it goes.

So far is has already been a bunch of fun, my friends and I have given each other theme suggestions on Facebook; that alone sent us into a few fits of giggles. I really recommend the idea to anyone whether you fancy your self a creative person or not. It doesn’t have to be for a full 30 days either, if you find that to intimidating just start with everyday for a week. It can even be something like trying a new recipe, just take a picture or write down the result so you have something to show at the end of the day!

On that note since today is day one here is my first set, the theme was murder so I went in a bit of a Dexter direction (’cause no one does murder better than Dexter). I just did the 4 most popular icons: RSS, Facebook, Twitter, and E-mail. If the set turns out to be really popular or useful I will expand on it.  Hope you like them!

P.S. You can download the vector files from my deviantART page just be sure to credit me if you use them!
